Frequently Asked Fire Pit Questions

Can I even have a fire pit in my back yard?

In most cases yes…but before you make your purchase, be sure to check with your local government to see what is allowed; what kinds of restrictions may apply and whether or not putting in a fire treatment requires any special permits.  Some cities and counties prefer you use natural gas or liquid propane over wood or charcoal as a way to limit emissions.

Should I use wood or natural gas / propane as my fuel?

That decision is really a matter of personal taste.  If you prefer the classic smell of wood smoke, the crackle of burning logs and tending to your embers, wood fuel is the choice for you.  If you’re looking for an easy convenient fire, one that ignites with the touch of a button and requires no tending, a natural gas or liquid propane fueled fire pit is the way to go.

What makes the best material for a fire treatment?

Again this is a matter of personal taste and aesthetics.  Your fire treatment will be a central focus of your outdoor décor.  Especially at night, it will draw people to your outdoor environment as a place to congregate and socialize.  Make sure you choose a fire treatment that reflects your personality and compliments the look of your yard, garden, deck or patio.

How should I position my fire pit?

Depending on the arrangement of your outdoor environment it is always a good idea to place your fire treatment in a place that will maximize its effect on your décor but is also safe and convenient.  Always clear away brush and vegetation, especially if it is dry, and never place your fire under trees so that errant sparks and heat won’t have anything to ignite.  Use a weather vane or streamers to learn which way the wind blows through your yard and place your treatment and surrounding furnishings so that smoke, for the most part, blows a way from guests and other areas of congregation.

Can I leave my fire pit outside year round?

Yes.  All of Outdora’s fire pits are made with enduring materials and quality construction so that they will last for years to come.  You can take steps to prolong your product’s life with regular cleaning and maintenance and by protecting it with a weather proof cover that keeps out the elements.
