How
can I increase or decrease the activity of my wind chime?
There
are several ways to change the activity of your wind chime.
First, try hanging it in a different location.
It’s current spot may not get enough wind to play the wind chime as
much as you’d like…or maybe it gets too much wind and you’d like to
decrease the amount that your wind chime plays.
Second, try hanging the chime at a different height about the top ring.
The closer you are to the ring, the more active your wind chime will be.
Finally, adjust the size of your wind chime’s windcatcher.
A larger windcatcher will interact with the wind more than a small one
and vise versa.
How
should I hang my wind chime?
There
are many safe ways to hand your wind chime.
The method you use will depend on the size of your wind chime and where
you choose to hang it.
1.
Don’t hang you wind chime on anything that is sharp or abrasive.
Over time the chord will be worn or cut and eventually break. Instead of hanging your wind chime from a rusty nail take the
time to get a hook or carabineer; hang the chime from hook then hang the hood
from the rusty nail.
2.
Remember that the forces on the wind chime will vary drastically in
severe weather. If you live in an
area of strong inclement weather take the time to use stronger chords and secure
anchoring for your wind chime
3.
Test you installation by giving it a tug to make sure it stays put.
Try to test the installation with a force that is two to three times the
weight of the wind chime.
4.
If you are going to hand your wind chime from a tree us a blanket, piece
of rubber or some kind of padding to spread out the load on the limb.
This will prevent the chord from cutting into the bark and damaging your
tree.
5.
Use a wall bracket to hang you wind chime from a vertical wall instead of
from an eave or a deck hook if you wish to hang it from your deck railing.
6.
Be creative and consider as many options as you can.

What
is the difference between the tones or voices of a wind chime and its tuning?
The
tuning is the particular scale, song or melody a wind chime is set to.
Its voice is determined the length of a wind chime’s tubes.
Wind chimes with longer tubes have a deeper voice while the tones of wind
chimes with shorter tubes are higher.
Can
I hang my wind chime out side?
Most
wind chimes are made to be hung outside. They
are either anodized or painted with protective coatings to prevent deterioration
and the usually come with heavy duty, synthetic chords that are resistant to the
elements. Some wind chimes, like
those made of copper, will developed a patina over time, if you wish to prevent
this use a metal polish or coating from time to time to prevent it.
