How
and where do I hang my new Hammock?
This is probably the most important question you can ask when buying a new
hammock. Where you hang your
hammock will determine how you hang it. If
you want it in the shade you can hang your hammock between two trees, if
they’re properly spaced, or between your support posts if you hang the hammock
in a covered porch or patio. If you
want it in the sun you’ll need a hammock stand or you’ll have to put in
posts. If you put in post be sure
to bury them at least two feet in the ground to give your new hammock and you
enough support.
How
far apart should my supports be?
The appropriate distance for your supports should be about 4 feet longer than
the total length of your hammock. This
will insure that your hammock doesn’t sag too much and that you’re in a
comfortable position when you relax rather than an awkward V.
How
high should I hang my Hammock?
There is no hard and fast rule for hanging your hammock. As a general guide-line most manufacturers recommend hanging
your hammock so that, when empty, the lowest part of the hammock is about waist
high. This will make it easier to
get in and out of your hammock without having to resort to complex gymnastics
and sticking your dismount.
When
should I use a Hammock Stand?
You need to use a stand when you don’t have or can’t make two points from
which to hang your hammock. Hammock
stands allow you the freedom and versatility to hang your hammock anywhere you
like. You can chase the sun or
shade around your yard as you like.
How
do I wash my Hammock?
For hammocks with a non-removable spreader bar the sink or the bath-tub is the
best place to wash. Simply fill up
the sink or tub, add a mild detergent and wash away.
If your hammock is two large to fit in the sink or tub, spread it out on
your driveway and wash it with your garden hose. Whatever method you use to wash, be sure to hang it out to
dry completely.
For hammocks without a spreader bar you can wash
them quit easily in your washing machine. Fold
you hammock in half and tie it together securely just above the hanging rings,
tie it at the folded end and then once more in the middle.
Put the hammock in an old pillow case and tie that shut then wash on the
gentle cycle with a mild detergent. After
the final rinse cycle remove and untie the hammock and hang it out to air dry.
